Anchored: Why Daily Time in the Word is Your Firm Foundation

If you’ve spent any time in my salon chair, you know that our conversations usually start with the light-hearted stuff. We talk about the new seasons, the way the kids are growing like weeds, or how life just feels like it’s moving at a hundred miles an hour.

But eventually, the conversation shifts. We start talking about the heavy things—the anxiety that keeps us up at night, the struggles of parenting, or the feeling that the ground beneath us is shifting.

In those moments, I always find myself coming back to the same truth: We cannot survive this ever-changing life without building our foundation on the Unchanging Word.

The Cornerstone of a Stable Life

In construction, the cornerstone is the first stone set in the foundation. Every other stone is aligned in reference to it. If that first stone is off, the whole building is crooked. Jesus is our cornerstone, if we don’t put Him first in our lives everything we build will crumble.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-25:

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

When we make the truth of the Bible our daily foundation, we aren’t just reading a book; we are aligning our lives with the Rock that never moves.

It’s Not Just an Opinion: The “Four Day” Effect

I know that sometimes we need more than just “encouragement”—we need the facts. Did you know that there is actually a measurable difference in the lives of people who read their Bibles versus those who don’t?

The Center for Bible Engagement conducted a massive study of over 40,000 people, and they discovered something called the “Power of 4.” They found that for people who read the Bible 1, 2, or even 3 days a week, there was very little statistically significant change in their behavior. But once someone hit 4 days or more a week, the results were staggering.

When people engaged with the Word at least 4 times a week:

  • Loneliness dropped by 30%.
  • Anger issues dropped by 32%.
  • Bitterness in relationships (including marriage and parenting) dropped by 40%.
  • Alcoholism dropped by 57%.
  • Feeling “spiritually stagnant” dropped by 60%.

Additionally, the American Bible Society’s “State of the Bible” report consistently shows that “Scripture-Engaged” individuals report significantly higher levels of hope and resilience when facing life’s storms.

How to Build Your Foundation (When Life is Loud)

I know what you’re thinking. “Kim, My life is so busy! How am I supposed to find ‘quiet’ time?” Trust me, I get it. My “quiet time” often involves a cat jumping on my Bible and a dog barking at a squirrel. But building a foundation isn’t about perfection; it’s about priority.

Stop “Fitting It In”: We don’t “fit in” a foundation; we lay it first. Try opening your Bible before you open your phone.

Start Small: You don’t have to read five chapters. Read one. Soak in it. Chat with Jesus about it while you make the coffee.

Use Your Tools: We all have a smartphone nowadays. Download the Bible App and use it to listen to the Word while you’re driving or prepping dinner.

My Prayer for Us

As we launch this journey together, my prayer is that we wouldn’t just be women who know about the Word, but women who are anchored by it. Let’s stop building our lives on the shifting sands of our emotions or the world’s opinions.

Let’s get back to the Rock.

Let me know in the comments below your favorite way to stay anchored in God’s Word.
